A Front-Row Seat to Maple Bay Life

Perched directly above the government wharf, The Maple Bay House puts you at the heart of one of Vancouver Island's most beloved waterfront communities. Watch sailboats drift in and out of anchor from your kitchen window, your bedroom, or the front garden seating area β€” ocean views follow you from room to room.

The property is a beautifully maintained 2-storey home with a separate, fully soundproofed basement suite. Both units have private entrances, so guests rarely cross paths. The main house offers 2,000 sq ft of bright, ocean-facing living space. The suite is a cozy 900 sq ft retreat with its own large balcony.

Out back, vegetable and fruit gardens are yours to pick from when in season. In front, a garden seating area faces the water. It's the kind of place that makes you slow down.

The Maple Bay Area

A small community with an outsized character β€” water, mountains, farms, and some of the best food on the Island.

β›΅

On the Water

Government wharf right out front. Watch boats and sailboats at anchor all day. Maple Bay Marina is a short drive down the road β€” dinner at The Shipyard Restaurant & Pub, a converted boatworks right on the docks, is a must.

The Beach

Maple Bay Beach Park sits right below the house β€” beach, playground, picnic spots, and public washrooms, with a lively mix of dogs, kids, and locals. The Lion Rampant, Vancouver Island's only Scottish pub, overlooks the whole bay.

πŸ›Ά

Kayaking & Paddling

Wilderness Kayaking rents kayaks and runs tours right from Maple Bay β€” explore the calm, protected water with seals, herons, and sailboats for company.

πŸ₯Ύ

Hiking

Mount Tzouhalem and Maple Mountain are both right up the road β€” trails for every level, from easy forest loops to summit viewpoints over the bay and Salt Spring Island.

πŸ¦…

The Raptors

The Raptors centre in nearby Duncan β€” eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls up close, with daily flying demonstrations. A guest favourite for all ages.

Museums

The Hand of Man Museum β€” an astonishing collection of natural history and cultural artifacts, minutes from the house. The Cowichan Valley Museum is a short walk up the hill.

Lake Cowichan

A scenic 40-minute drive away: float the river with The Tube Shack, or rent jet skis and paddleboards from Kaatza Adventures for a full day on the lake.

The Cowichan Valley is famous for wine tours. Family farms and roadside stands offer fresh local produce. One of BC's premier agri-tourism regions.

Dog Park & Playground

Andy Hutchins Park, just up the road, has an off-leash dog park, pickleball and tennis courts, and a kids' playground β€” and the beach foreshore below is off-leash October to mid-June.
